Twenty-one off the van

Photographed on site as each one finished. Houses, cottages, garden rooms, refits and working units.

Warm LED plinth lighting under kitchen units
Plinth lighting carried the full length of a kitchen. Sat far enough back under the units that you read it as an even wash across the floor rather than a row of separate dots.
Replacement consumer unit with individual RCBOs and surge protection
Replacement board closed up — a protective device on each circuit and surge protection at the end of the row.
EV charge point on a rendered wall with the lead coiled
Charge point on a rendered elevation, cable dropping straight into the duct.
Two coach lanterns lit either side of an arched porch
Coach lanterns on an arched porch, switched together and left on a photocell.
First fix wiring through floor joists with circuits chalked on brickwork
First fix on a stripped house, circuits chalked on the wall and agreed before cable went in.
Recessed downlights across a newly plastered open-plan ceiling
Downlights set out across a knocked-through kitchen and living space.
LED strip lighting concealed under a timber stair handrail
Strip lighting under a handrail — light on the treads, fitting out of sight.
Consumer unit with numbered RCBOs, AFDDs and surge protection
Board numbered and finished: a device per circuit, arc-fault protection across the socket ways and a surge device on the end. Every way labelled before the cover went back, which is the bit that saves somebody an hour in two years' time.
Sockets, light and a small consumer unit inside a garden room
Garden room fed on armoured cable with its own small board, sockets and a light.
Brass bulkhead wall lights either side of a mirror in a green tiled cloakroom
Brass bulkheads either side of a cloakroom mirror on their own switched way.
LED batten lighting across the ceiling of a commercial workshop
LED battens through a working unit, hung clear of the gantry and sheeted over.
Wall lights and mirrors being installed during a washroom refurbishment
Mirror lighting and extract on a washroom refit, wired around the other trades.
New consumer unit installed inside a cupboard
New board in a tight understairs cupboard, square and with room behind the tails.
Tethered EV charge point with its lead coiled on a brick wall
Tethered unit on a gable, lead coiled against the wall rather than across the drive.
Smart heating thermostat showing a target temperature
Smart thermostat commissioned and paired once the heating controls were rewired.
Bollard lights lighting a block paved driveway at dusk
Bollards down both sides of a new driveway, run off a single outdoor circuit and switched by photocell so they follow the light rather than a clock that drifts through the year.
Starburst LED ceiling light fitted above a dining table
Starburst fitting over a dining table, flush to the ceiling and re-centred to suit.
Digital multifunction tester showing an earth loop reading at an outdoor socket
Earth loop impedance measured at an outdoor socket. The reading is the deliverable.
Close view of a finished consumer unit with dressed cabling
Board up close — nothing bunched, nothing left long, every core traceable.
Infrared patio heater fixed to brickwork under an awning
Overhead heater and festoon run above a sheltered terrace so the seating stays usable well past September.
Crystal chandelier hung from a dining room ceiling
Crystal chandelier fixed back to the joist and dropped to clear the sightlines.

Why us

Turn up, price it, do it

Whoever answers the phone is whoever ends up in your loft, and everything we tell you afterwards has a reading behind it.

Reach

Town and country both

Darlington itself, the villages ringing it and the market towns beyond. Plenty of firms quote for the town and go quiet once you mention a farm track. We price the mileage into the job and get on with it.

Quoted

Settled before we start

The figure is agreed while everything is still in the van. If the boards come up and something unexpected is underneath, we stop and put it to you rather than deciding on your behalf.

Order

Breakdowns before bookings

A planned install can shift a day without anyone suffering. A property sat with no supply cannot. Breakdowns are slotted in ahead of everything else and you get told a time we can actually keep.

Records

Certificates that mean something

Loop impedance, insulation resistance, electrode readings on TT installations — measured properly, written down and handed over with an explanation rather than a folder you never open.

Older

Used to awkward buildings

Stone cottages, converted barns, farm buildings on their own earth rod and Victorian terraces carrying sixty years of additions. None of it surprises us and none of it gets bodged to save an hour.

Scale

No job turned down for size

A single dead socket in a terrace or a full rewire of a farmhouse. Both get quoted, both get done, and the small one doesn't get inflated to justify the trip.

Around Darlington

What brings people to us

Four searches behind most of the calls that come in here.

Electrician Near Me

Looking for an electrician near you in Darlington usually means you want somebody who can be there this week rather than a firm quoting from the other end of the county. We are local, so Cockerton, Mowden, Harrowgate Hill or Blackwell is a ten-minute run. Owner-occupied houses, rented property and small commercial premises all handled by the same electricians.

Emergency Electrician Darlington

No supply at all, an RCD that will not stay up, a socket gone brown around the edges or a burnt smell hanging near the board. Phone it through and describe what you can see. We will name the thing to isolate straight away and give you an arrival time we intend to keep rather than a window that means nothing.

EV Charge Point Installer Darlington

The service head and tails decide what is possible, so that gets checked before anything else. Then a dedicated circuit out to the charger and the unit positioned where the lead reaches the socket on the car without being stretched. Longer drives and detached garages are common round here and both change the answer.

Village & Rural Property Electrics

Out in the villages the supply is often overhead and the installation earthed to its own rod rather than the incoming cable. That changes what protection is required, what an inspection has to measure and what a charge point installation involves. We test the electrode, record the reading and tell you plainly if it is not good enough.

FAQs

Before you ring

Do you cover emergency call-outs in Darlington?

Yes, and a breakdown is put ahead of whatever was booked in. Anything that has taken the supply out, stopped a breaker holding, marked an accessory with scorching or produced a burning smell counts. Phone 01325 793032, describe what you are looking at, and we will name the thing to switch off before we leave and tell you honestly when we will arrive.

How far out from Darlington do you travel?

Darlington and the villages around it — Hurworth, Neasham, Middleton St George, Sadberge, Heighington, Piercebridge, Gainford, Croft-on-Tees — then out to Newton Aycliffe, Shildon, Bishop Auckland, Spennymoor, Ferryhill, Sedgefield, Staindrop and Barnard Castle, and south into Richmond, Catterick, Northallerton, Bedale and Leyburn. Ring and ask if you are past that.

My house is on its own earth rod — does that matter?

It matters quite a lot, and it is common in the villages here. A TT installation earthed to a rod rather than to the incoming supply needs RCD protection throughout, and the electrode resistance has to be measured and recorded rather than assumed. Rods corrode and readings drift over the years. If yours has never been tested, that is worth knowing before you add a charge point or anything else substantial.

What does a job cost?

It depends what the job is, and anyone quoting a flat rate down the phone for unseen work is guessing. Describe something small clearly and we will usually give you a number on the call. Rewires, board changes, farm buildings and anything in an older property get a visit first. The figure is fixed before we begin either way.

Can you wire barns, stables and outbuildings?

Regularly. That means an appropriately rated supply out to the building, usually armoured and buried at the right depth, its own distribution board at the far end, and accessories chosen for the environment rather than whatever was cheapest. Dust, damp and livestock all shorten the life of the wrong fitting, so it pays to specify properly at the start.

Can you install an EV charger if my drive is long?

Usually. A longer run means bigger cable to keep the volt drop inside limits, and it is worth working that out before you buy a unit rather than after. Detached garages and outbuildings often already have a supply that can be extended, which sometimes makes the job cheaper than expected. We will look and tell you which way round it falls.

What is an EICR and what will I be given?

Every fixed part of the installation is inspected and tested — the board, buried circuits, accessories, lighting points, earthing and bonding. You receive a report marked satisfactory or unsatisfactory, with each defect given a code showing how urgent it is. We talk you through what those codes mean for you and price any repairs separately so the two decisions stay apart.

Why does my RCD keep tripping?

Usually an appliance leaking to earth, water finding its way into an outside circuit, or a light fitting that has failed. On older boards one RCD often covers half the house, so the normal small leakage from several circuits added together is enough to take it out. It needs testing to find which — fitting a new board without tracing the fault often just relocates the problem.

Can you look after a rented portfolio?

Regularly. Inspection reports, the certificates that go with them, whatever remedial work they throw up, and appliance testing alongside. Scale is not the issue — one flat above a shop or thirty units spread between the town and the outlying villages both work. Give us the numbers and rough locations on the call and we will build a run that suits your access arrangements rather than ours.

What is the quickest way to reach you?

The phone. 01325 793032 gets you an electrician rather than a call centre, which matters most when something has already gone wrong. Writing works too — either form on this page arrives with us immediately and we will ring back to agree a slot.
